This is a demonstration of an extremely useful knot - the slip-knot.

It is most useful, when bringing two tissue edges together under tension (note that in this situation, a surgeons knot springs open after the first throw, so by the time you have your second throw ready to place, it is too late).

However, it can be used in place of a surgeons knot in every single situation. What this means, is that you can practice it every time you need a knot, so that when you really need to utilise it, you are proficient at the technique.

Other uses - superior to a surgeons knot for ovarian pedicle, extra-capsular suture if not able to use crimps.
